The 2023 Heavy Hitters Awards recognized top Charlotte-area commercial real estate projects completed between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023 in the categories of space build-out, apartments or condominiums, hospitality/entertainment, mixed-use, retail, warehouse, flex, office, and healthcare. The Exchange at Rock Hill project team was recognized among other finalists and winners at an awards dinner on Thursday, October 12 in Uptown Charlotte.
Completed in 2022, Exchange at Rock Hill is an apartment and mixed-use community in the heart of historic downtown Rock Hill. With 219 market-rate and 10 affordable apartment units, the community more than doubled the number of existing multifamily units within a half-mile radius. Community amenities include a swimming pool, fitness center, game lounge, coworking space, rooftop terrace, picnic/grilling area, dog park, pet spa, bike racks, and storage units. The retail space features an expansive outdoor mural by world-renown artist and muralist, Shepard Fairey. The mural’s imagery pays homage to Rock Hill’s history as a key player in the textile industry as well as the railroad industry. Additionally, the site is also home to Rock Hill’s iconic little red caboose, a popular symbol of the city’s history and heritage.
